Writing Program Ranked 6th Nationally

USA Today ranked the writing program at WUSTL the 6th best in the nation in April 2011 in conjunction with ­CollegeDegree.com.

It praised Washington University for its variety of offerings, from the “Short-Short,” ­“Sudden Fiction and ­Microfiction,” ­“Literary Journalism” and ­“Stories From the Suburbs.”

In the last few years, the Department of English in Arts & Sciences has seen the popularity of writing courses grow at unprecedented rates.

All freshmen are required to take “Writing I.” ­Students can also enroll in advanced creative and expository writing workshops.

Washington University was ranked ahead of the ­University of Iowa and Columbia University. Emory ­University was ranked first, followed by Hamilton College.
